The Director of E-Commerce has the unique opportunity to contribute their talent, energy and ideas as we make life a little sweeter, one piece of candy at a time.
This position will be responsible for the development and optimization of See’s ecommerce channel supporting sales and profit objectives and improving See’s presence and engagement over the web. This role will work with our Marketing, Creative and Operations departments as well as key sales channels to develop the strategy and optimize customer attraction and satisfaction. This also includes leading the day-to-day and end-to-end operations, developing and managing the consumer front-end, operating infrastructure and technology roadmap of the site and inventory planning and management.
Supports sales and profitability objectives of the Mail Order/Direct channel, and managing the website and content to achieve efficient and user friendly functionality in placing orders to increase the active customer base of this consumer channel.
Responsible for website and its content to support the sales and profit goals and increase active customer base of the Quantity Discount (Business Gift and Fundraising) customer segments.
Ensure assigned online category goals and objectives are strategically and tactically aligned to deliver a favorable See’s online experience, as well as deliver on See’s customer service expectations and financial budgets.
Develops and recommends strategies, investments, and ecommerce efforts that will result in greater sales, improved customer service or cost reductions in support of Mail Order/Direct/Quantity Discount/Fund Raising.
Responsible for creation, presentation and administration of departmental budget, which includes both operational and capital expenditure budget proposals as appropriate. This position will also provide input to and participate in other project, departmental and company budget administration.
Coordinates with merchandising, marketing and channel department heads to develop sales strategies for each holiday season, and complete post season analysis and performance review.
Collaborates with cross- functional partners to manage all aspects of the e-commerce business (including business planning, content strategy and development, promotional campaigns and other online marketing, website design, customer service, web analytics and web technologies) to facilitate channel planning and strategies to gain alignment and consistency in our programs.
Own the user experience, monitor performance, and propose continuous improvements, work with business partners to identify key areas to improve the overall customer journey.
Collaborate with marketing and operations and customer service on content strategy, media, product launches, promotional campaigns and other initiatives.
Collaborate with IT development on design, architecture and back-end solutions for enhanced site functionality to ensure that the overall brand strategy for the company is translated online.
Supports, protects and champions the See’s Brand at all times.
Prepares forecast for initial seasonal and all year product quotas for Direct Sales/Mail Order Department, and monitors sales against quotas during each major holiday season, making adjustments as needed to website merchandise offerings, increasing and decreasing quota needs for Product Support Group adjustments, and changing digital or email communications as needed during seasons based on availability.
Direct the ecommerce channel’s sales, productivity, content and profitability through analysis, ideation and management.
This position is responsible to identify opportunities to enhance technology and innovation that will enhance departmental effectiveness.
Establishes principles for change and maintains change momentum through responsive communication, engagement and development. Also learns from, measures and sustains change results.
Remains current with the latest ecommerce trends and technology through customer insights and industry research to keep the site at the forefront and ahead of competition while focused on departmental KPI’s and ROI.
Responsible for the supervision and development of the Site Merchant.
Performs special projects as assigned by the SVP of Sales and Marketing.
Seven to ten years E-commerce experience with a multi-channel retailer, preferably with annual sales in excess of $500M.
Proven ability to increase sales and profit; demonstrated analytic, problem solving and decision making skills.
Proven strategic leadership skills, including ability to develop, retain and inspire a team.
Both strategic and tactical with the ability to both lead and direct but also “roll up his or her sleeves” and actually do the work.
Experience in, and understanding of, effective online marketing communication strategies and tactics.
Ability to analyze website metrics and produce reports; experience with analytical tools.
Knowledge of external website platforms and software packages.
Business or Marketing degree required; MBA preferred.
