SUMMARY This position requires a broad understanding of Gas Turbine, Steam Turbine, and Electric Generator designs, equipment manufacture, and the equipment servicing industry. Development, management, and administration of SMW’s engineering program is key to ensuring that procedures and policies of the organization are coordinated throughout the entire engineering organization with a philosophy of continuous improvement and total customer satisfaction. The expertise to develop strong customer relations as well as factory relations is imperative for establishing a successful engineering program from customer order, engineering and technical contract negotiations through manufacturing support; design related cost-down activities, and manufacturing process improvements. Lead the engineering and configuration control of parts within the MHPSA new and service fleet. This position will lead the overall design liaison responsibilities with groups such as MHPS (TGO, NGA), GTSE, STSE, MD&A, PWPS, etc. in review of procedures, design reviews, tollgate progress/achievement, design analysis, etc. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES As an Advanced Leadership position requiring knowledge of the organization’s business practices and issues, this role requires you to: Develop staffing and employment plans to provide a solid core of well-rounded engineers. This group must be versatile and not limited to a specific product or process; Develop, evaluate, and improve standardized manufacturing techniques by analysis and application of strategies to maximize work force production levels, spatial constraints, workflow, and design layout of equipment for maximum efficiency and compliance with ISO 9001 certification; Support engineering control plans or process control procedures that will ensure production of finished products which meet quality specifications and standards; Supply technical assistance in developing suitable processes for customers or overcoming difficulties in the use of products; Work with appropriate departments to ensure products can be delivered to customer's specifications and help develop those specifications; Support Manufacturing by providing technical document support for work and process instructions; Lead value engineering efforts to reduce Lead Time and Product cost through Direct Material Productivity (DMP) and the Get 20/20 Program Lead design related cost-down activities as well as manufacturing process improvement and cost reduction efforts. Coordinate activities with MHPS Engineering functions as necessary; Primary interface with Sourcing activities at all levels Aggressive Continuous Improvement actions Lead and support the company’s overarching goals for achieving cost reductions through Pareto and similar quantitative approaches (such as Six-Sigma and LEAN Mfg.); Fully implement and engineering change management system using Engineering Change Request/Notification (ECR/ECN) Coordinate the overall engineering specifications and standards for raw materials, processes, and finished products; Direct the continuing review of the engineering programs and the formulation of new or revised procedures to effect improvements, reduce costs, and enhance efficiency on an organization wide basis; Lead and build strong rapport with all levels of the organization Working with other Engineering departments, coordinate procedures for common methods of Engineering design reviews and project / design management; Support customer visits and all documentations or reporting to be transmitted; Interface with sales/commercial & accounting departments to define and obtain forecasted project approvals & release as well as with internal project, procurement, manufacturing & field service departments to achieve program goals, including support of vendor selection and qualification. Support technical leadership of industry meetings including users conferences, collaboration meeting and industry conferences (PowerGen, ASME, EPRI, Turbo Expo, etc.) Overnight travel both domestic and/or international locations by land and/or air; - UP TO 20% Perform other such duties as may be required. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EDUCATION The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's degree (BS) in Engineering from four-year College or University; 10+ years experience in the turbine design, manufacturing and service engineering sector. Must have Leadership exp. in a technical environment and previous Engineering analysis/design experience. The preferred candidate will have experience with structural engineering of gas & steam turbine components and experience with manufacturing processes used within MHPS and vendor facilities. Management Skills: Candidate shall have demonstrated management and/or team leadership skills in short term critical path development programs. Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as drawings, logic diagrams, schematics, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Ability to read and speak the Japanese language would be a plus. Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Computer Skills: Knowledge of database, project management, spreadsheet and word processing software; electronic mail; graphics; technical diagrams; flow charts, etc. Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Programs Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
