Job Description

Position Summary: Design and develop electro-mechanical systems, electrical panel layouts, mechanical layouts and control systems, PLC controls, and documentation. Collaborate with technical team on R&D and sustaining engineering projects involving design, prototyping & validation of Canberra’s standard products & complex systems. Develop conceptual designs working closely with sales and proposals staff to meet customer technical and budgetary requirements. Essential Duties: Design electrical control circuits (high/low voltage). Design mechanical enclosures. Calculate power requirements. Design electrical cabinet layouts. Review and check manufacturing assembly. Create and perform test procedures and functions. Document all work. Participate / lead design review meetings. Sketch cabinet detail requirements. PLC code development. Project planning and scheduling. Design review. Cost analysis. Additional Duties: Make presentations. Visit Customer Sites for Engineering/Technical Review and Information Gathering. Provide customer technical support for installed equipment. Essential Requirements: Ability to analyze/solve engineering problems. Ability to read and verify schematic prints. Ability to sketch ideas. Ability to generate initial cost estimates. Strong planning/organizational skills to adhere to tight schedules for multiple tasks. Strong verbal/written communication skills. Solid working knowledge of PC operations, including word processing, spreadsheet and design software. Knowledge of PC operations, including word processing, spreadsheet and design software. Knowledge of ANSI spec. and IEEE, IEC, NEC standards. Ability to analyze/solve engineering problems. Ability to read and verify schematic prints. Ability to sketch ideas. Ability to generate initial cost estimates. Strong planning/organizational skills to adhere to tight schedules for multiple tasks. Strong verbal/written communication skills. Additional Requirements: Working knowledge of AutoCAD. Familiarity with PLC’s (programmable logic controllers) and industrial control systems. Familiarity with manufacturing processes. Must be available to adjust work schedule to deal with last minute changes and demands. Experience and Educational Requirements: Two or more years project experience involving electro-mechanical devices. B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related discipline. Four years’ experience in related engineering position may substitute for formal education.
