The Raw Material Strategic Sourcing Manager is a highly visible position which will require the selected candidate to efficiently managing the purchase of raw materials for support of various PPG Strategic Business Unit initiatives. The Raw Material Strategic Sourcing Manager is responsible for developing strategic sourcing strategy plans (SSP) for raw materials which will include product design, determining quantity and quality, negotiating cost including development and implementation of a multi-step cost savings design over time. In addition to managing an assigned portfolio, strong leadership skills are necessary as the Raw Material Strategic Sourcing Manager will assist in mentoring and developing junior level raw material buyers.
Additional responsibilities include:
Assists with the development of strategies related to use/purchase of specific raw materials
Develops Strategic Sourcing Plans (SSP) and/or implements strategic sourcing plans (SSP) related to assigned raw material categories.
Leads and motivates business unit contracts to accomplish Value Analysis (VA) cost savings projects and implement raw materials strategies.
Provides guidance as a member of the raw material GSM team to ensure that new materials employ Value Engineering (design-to-cost, manufacturability considerations, and logistics).
Works closely with technical and operations to implement alternative raw material suppliers
Manages raw material supplier relationships
Develops cost/benefit analyses for new or revised materials to ensure positive impacts to the SBUs through key negotiations with suppliers
Contributes as a key influencer role in the qualification of alternative raw material sources
Provides guidance as a member of the raw material purchasing team to ensure that new materials employ (Value Engineering) design-to-cost, manufacturability considerations, and logistics
Cultivates constructive, working relationships with suppliers and PPG global counterparts during the development of new materials or, as required, in the analysis and redesign of existing materials
Ensures that negotiated purchase costs, manufacturability and performance requirements of our raw materials meet the various SBU needs
Interfaces with, and represents the raw purchasing team to various suppliers, other PPG global buyers and technical representatives to properly define costs, benefits, and logistical needs
Maintains close coordination with personnel from the supplier base, R&D/application labs, and manufacturing
Trains and develops Junior Buyers to accomplish cost savings and implement raw materials strategies
Minimum Required Experience and Education:
Bachelor's degree required preferably in a technical field of study such as Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.
Previous raw material purchasing experience or previous contract negotiation experience is required.
Candidates must have the ability to understand the supply chain of the assigned materials and to develop purchasing strategies that provide maximum value to the company.
Strong computer and communication skills are necessary
The ability to work well with people at various organizational levels and demonstrated leadership ability are needed
Demonstrated oral and written communication skills for frequent contact with suppliers, the technical community and within PPG at both technical and leadership levels are essential
The incumbent must maintain extensive awareness of research, sales & marketing, and manufacturing strategies in order to support business unit goals
Experience working with multiple Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) applications is an asset
