Summary Description: This position designs and deploys nationwide Whataburger’s Restaurant Segment’s strategic vision to drive profitable growth and market positioning and advancement. This role utilizes Restaurants Operations expertise to lead successful strategic rollouts, synthesize market trends, implement penetration strategies, and go-to-market strategy creation and commercialization of services. Responsible for the communication of the Restaurant Segment’s strategy to leadership audiences, as well as the engagement of the segment’s commitment to execute the overarching vision and organization-wide strategic imperatives. Provides effective direction to bridge delivery gaps between the Segment Strategy and the company’s Vision. Blends technical knowledge, qualitative and quantitative skills to evaluate existing strategies from arsenal of strategic methodology to deliver results, drive improvements, and achieve industry impact. Oversees improvement strategies underway by Strategy Planning Team and Restaurant Business Development Team (Focus Market Improvement Team and Special Operations Team); ensures strategies drive organizational goals and contribute to the optimization of the organization.
Serves as an extension of Segment Leadership to optimize the prioritization and the deployment of strategic initiatives and operational execution in conjunction with the Restaurant Services teams. Serves as central contributor to the Segment’s innovation and growth, impacting our daily decisions and our ability to drive the company’s growth objectives.
Leads and supports the identification of segment strategy objectives, evaluates existing strategies, makes improvements and develops new processes and aligns Restaurant Services Long-Term Strategy to the Enterprise Business Plans. Analyzes and distributes strategies for products, market conditions, competitors and customers for business decision-making.
Responsible for the delivery of company valuation / strategic alternatives, key initiatives, business cases, deliverable statements, work breakdown structures, effort artifacts and presentations for strategic leadership audiences.
Leads and drives the Quarterly and Annual Business Planning Process and Segment Service Delivery initiatives and enhancements. Initiates and leads vertical market strategies related to the entire organization’s enterprise information management portfolio for the Quick Service Industry.
Partners with business managers in illustrating the alignment between goals and key business decisions regarding products and services, partners and suppliers, organization, capabilities and key initiatives. Drives the creation of a resonant, systems’ view of customer experience/market demands. Lays groundwork to achieve revenue targets.
Responsible for supporting the development of an integrated view of the enterprise using a repeatable approach, cohesive framework and available industry standard technique(s). Builds pipeline of strategies/opportunities through participation in cross-functional team collaborations - marketing campaigns, maximizing sales/reporting, and increasing market share through strategic customer support.
Analyzes business drivers and business operations through the use of business analysis frameworks and related networks that link these aspects of the enterprise together. Analyzes marketing and financial metrics to identify trends and highlight opportunities to drive business performance.
Engages with all essential parties to ensure quality of data, communications and reports are successfully translated into actionable objectives and deliverables to bridge the gap of the upstream Segment vision. Develops a robust understanding of Restaurant Segment’s data and data systems – financial and operational – to ensure most effective use of data.
Directs and ensures team and department alignment to quarterly, yearly, strategic and timeline for change goals. Makes recommendations for steps to align key stakeholders. Conducts strategic business reviews identifying productivity improvement and automation opportunities.
Learns to use existing tools and help build new tools by defining what information needs to be captured, how to procure it, and how to present it. Executes special projects / ad hoc analyses, as initiatives, products, risks and opportunities are constantly evolving
Provides market forecasts and prediction trends based on test market pilots, research data and observations. Leads Strategy Team to draft project strategy including project positioning, industry matching, target clients/markets, etc. Reviews market research and analysis collected by team, guides team in consolidating exercises for the evaluation of relevant market information and materials.
Authors long-term strategy to revisit scorecard measurement indicators, mobile app ordering, payment technology, next-generation dining concepts, partnerships and their return on investment. Advocates as champion for change.
Streamlines Operational Strategies for existing operational standards which are aimed at reduced overall transactions/processes (drive-thru times), improve farm-to-fork quality. Garners support and buy-in for strategic initiatives from decision makers and operational influencers. Conducts regular status and strategy meetings to understand needs and link them to the organization's product/service strategies.

Bachelor’s degree or any equivalent combination of educational and work experience required
Master’s degree preferred
5+ years’ experience supervising others at various organizational levels, preferably at a regional or higher level
9+ years’ experience as project or program director

Ability to engage on front-end of strategies, establishing the frameworks which guide successful outcomes, through the entire strategy design process completion
Ability to serves as team leader in fostering an agile, test & learn culture on the team; able to lead client discussions, brainstorming, and working sessions
Ability to provide a clear and concise delivery of the strategy and vision for company-wide audiences
Ability to collaborate and align with leadership to facilitate, understand and deliver Segment artifacts
Skilled in directing the development of written and visual communications, problem statements and expected results
Adaptable to fast-changing situations, adept at answering tough questions from clients, and diplomatic in their assessment of the clients' needs
Skilled in answering ad-hoc business questions to drive marketing strategies, create insight, or troubleshoots business performance issues and strategic recommendations that will drive business results
Track record to increase efficiencies, ability to translate Operational objectives to Franchise Operations
Knowledgeable in ensuring Segment programs properly align to company vision
Proficiency in MS Office Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point and Visio (as applicable)
Proficiency in JD Edwards (as applicable)

WORKING CONDITIONS/TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
Expected to work the necessary time to satisfactorily fulfill job responsibilities
Must be able to report to work timely and as required by operational/business needs
Must be able to work a full-time schedule and work outside of normal business hours when necessary
Some travel, both locally and long distances, (including air travel), to worksites, meeting sites, and other locations may be necessary
